A Short Introduction to Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is an integral part of India’s border shielding and was shaped on Oct 24, 1962 after Sino-Indian fight. ITBP personnel are deployed along the Indo-Tibetan border and they work in tough terrains with difficult weather which include extreme cold conditions and high altitude. Specialized training is one of the major strengths of ITBP. At the same time, personnel receives intensive training in mountaineering and survival skills to best manage a crisis in treacherous climates. Some of the versatility demonstrated by our members is evident when they deploy in support of disaster relief efforts where traditional policing duties may be secondary to humanitarian or stabilization factors driven by larger events. Such engagement among grass-root communities would help build trust and cooperation required to sustain peace in border areas. |
